THE FAMILY OF JOSEPH V & CATHERINE HUEFNER

CENSUS INFORMATION:

 

Joseph and Catherine Huefner were married in about 1928 and their first child was born in July of that year. By 1930 the family had settled in Oil City and Catherine would have been pregnant with their second child:

2: The family's surname was misspelled on the census schedule.
3: The census schedule records that Joseph's and Catherine's parents were all born in Pennsylvania.
4: Joseph and Catherine were living in a rented house, paying $16 a month in rent.
5: I believe that Hwd was the abbreviation for Hardware.
6: Helen's age was 1 year, 11 months.

By 1940 the family had grown with the addition of four children and moved a half mile east to Cooper Avenue:

2: Joseph and Catherine were living in a rented house, paying $12 a month in rent.
3: The 1940 census schedules recorded information differently than previous censuses. Instead of recording the birthplace of each persons' parents they chose to select certain individuals to record 'Supplementary Questions'. No one in their household was asked these extra questions.
