MONUMENT INSCRIPTIONS:

"Pray for the soul of Robert, beloved husband of
Mary Anne Morton, died 6th of March 1925, aged 54 years.
Also for William, their son, died 20th Aug.1919, aged 22 years.
Also Robert, their son, aged 4 years.
Also George, who died in infancy.
Also Mary Anne, the dearly loved wife of the above Robert,
who died 9th June 1959, aged 91 years".

DEATH NOTICE:
"Morton - On the 6th inst., at St. Joseph's Hospital, Mount-street, Preston, Robert, the beloved husband of Mary Ann Morton, aged 54 years. R.I.P. 16 Oswald-Road, Ashton. Inquires to J. Kirkham and sons, Funeral Directors, Water Lane, Preston".

BURIAL RECORDS:
Robert Morton, of 16 Oswald Road, Ashton, purchased grave R-74 in Roman Catholic Section at Preston Cemetery on 20 November 1912. There are four burials:
Robert Morton Jr., of Isolation Hospital, Preston, age 4 years, was buried on 20 November 1912. His was the 1st interment and he was buried 16ft deep.
William Morton, of 16 Oswald Road, a mechanic, age 22 years, was buried on 23 August 1919. The 2nd interment, he was buried 14ft deep.
Robert Morton Sr., of 16 Oswald Road, an overlooker, age 54 years, was buried on 28 October 1925. His was the 3rd interment, the depth not recorded in the Burial Register.
Mary Anne Morton, of 16 Oswald Road, died at Eaves Lane Hospital, Chorley, aged 91 years, and was buried on 12 June 1959. Hers was the 4th interment and last interment, buried 7.5ft deep.
AND IN A SEPARATE GRAVE:
Mary Alice Cross, of 16 Oswald Road, widow, died at 32 Watling Street Road, Fulwood, aged 71 years, and was buried on 2 February 1966 She was buried with her late husband Joseph Charles Cross and members of his family in grave T-446. Hers was the 4th interment and last interment, buried 4.5ft deep.

 

NOTE: Although their son George is listed on their headstone, he is actually buried in an unmarked public grave, G-438 in the Roman Catholic section of Preston Cemetery:
George Morton, of 26 Hesketh Street, Age 14 months, was buried on 28 July 1897.
