FAMILY HISTORY: MORTON

THE FAMILY OF DOROTHY BRADLEY

Peter Bradley and Dorothy Gardener were married on 16 December 1811 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Lancaster, Lancashire. They had nine children - including one set of twins. Dorothy, their youngest, was born on the 24th and baptized on the 28th of September 1828 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Lancaster, where her mother and father married almost 17 years earlier. The sponsors were William and Mary Bradley and the officiating priest was Father George Brown.
By the time of the 1871 Census most of their children had either died or moved away to start families of their own. The exceptions being Elizabeth - who was by then a widow - and Dorothy, who at 42 may have been afraid that she would be "left on the shelf".
