BURIAL RECORDS:
James Weights, of 14 Otway Street, Preston, purchased grave M-197 in the Church of England Section at Preston Cemetery on 5 March 1894. There are seven burials:
1) Earnest Weights, age 7 months, of 14 Otway Street, Preston, buried 5 March 1894 by Geo. Alker. His was the 1st interment, buried 20 ft deep. Burial No. 47287
2) Herbert Weights, age 4 months, of 14 Otway Street, Preston, buried 18 August 1897 by W.E.W. Carr. His was the 2nd Interment, buried 20 ft deep. Burial No. 51647
3) Henry Hill, age 36, farmhand, of 285 Plungington Road, Preston, buried 31 December 1914 b. His was the 3rd interment, buried 18 ft deep. Burial No. 71664
4) James Weights, age 57, clerk, of 285 Plungington Road, Preston, buried 17 May 1917. His was the 4th Interment, buried 16 ft deep. Burial No. 74219
5) Mary Weights, age 86, widow of James, of 285 Plungington Road, Preston, buried 31 March 1949. Hers was the 5th interment - depth not stated. Burial No. 203973
6) Sarah Hill, age 81, of 285 Plungington Road, Preston, buried 8 April 1969. Hers was the 6th burial, buried 6ft deep. Burial No. 118777
7) Arthur Weights, age 80, of 285 Plungington Road, Preston, buried 12 September 1979. His was the seventh and last interment. Burial No. 122575. He died at Preston Royal Infirmary.

 

NOTES:
1: Grave M-197 was apparently a public grave before being sold privately. If the burial register is correct, there were at least ten burials in this grave before James bought it. I can not see how they could have buried Earnest Weights 20ft deep if the grave already contained 10 burials unless those bodies were removed beforehand. Very strange indeed.
2: Sarah Hill was the daughter of James and Mary Weights and the widow of Henry Hill.
