DEATH OF COUNCILOR MRS. BAKER

The death occurred on Sunday, after a long and painful illness, of Mrs Robert Baker, Hillock's Farm, Croston. One of the best-known figures in the district, Mrs Baker was a member of the Croston Urban Council, and would have completed three years in that capacity next April. For about ten years she was on the old Chorley Board of Guardians, and when it was superceded by the Guardians Committee she became a member of the new body. Mrs. Baker, who was 66, took a keen interest in Conservative work and the Mother's Union, and her loss will be very keenly felt. The funeral took place at Croston Parish Church on Wednesday afternoon, the church service being conducted by the Rector, the Rev. R. A. Rawstorne, and the last rites were performed at the graveside by the Bishop of Whalley. The coffin was borne to the church by Mrs. Baker's sons and sons-in-law, and the cortege was headed by the following members and officials of the Croston Urban Council: Mr. J. Bannister, Chairman, Messrs J. Black (Clerk), J. Banks, R. Almond, E. Staziker, Dr. A. Duckworth (Medical Officer), Messrs J. Black (Clerk), H. W. Chadwick (Surveyor), and J. T. Nicklin (collector). The family mourners included Mr. Robert Baker (husband), Mr. and Mrs. N. Baker (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. J. Baker (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker (son and daughter-in-law), Mr. Harry Baker (son), Mrs. and Mr. D. Webster (daughter and son-in-law), Mrs. and Mr. J.
