FAMILY HISTORY: NORRIS

THE FAMILY OF HUGH & MARGARET NORRIS

INFORMATION FROM WILLS:

Hugh Norris
Norris, Hugh, of Folly Cottages, Croston, Lancashire, died 21 January 1936. PROBATE Lancaster 16 May (1936) to Sarah Ann Hesketh (wife of Josiah Hesketh) and Henry Dalton, farmer bailiff. Effects: £222
Hugh Norris wrote his Will on 28 September 1935 naming his daughter Sarah Ann, of Sidbrook Hall Farm in Eccleston; and Henry Dalton of Estate Offices, Croston to act as his Executors.

After the usual instructions for the payment of his just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses, he bequeathed all of his real and personal property upon trust to his wife Margaret Norris during her lifetime, and after her death, upon trust in equal shares to his sons John and James Norris - upon reaching the age of 21 years (John and James were minors when their father wrote his Will) and his daughter Sarah Ann Hesketh, wife of Josiah Hesketh.

He directed that the child or children of any of his children that predecease him would be entitled to their parents share of his estate upon reaching the age of 21 years - or if female - marrying before that age. He further directed that if any of his children predeceased him having no children, their share would be divided equally between his surviving children.

Hugh Norris signed the Will with his mark, which was witnessed by James Smith of Out Lane, Croston and Mrs Margaret Hilda Smith of Oak House, Croston
Margaret Norris
I have checked the National Probate Index for the years 1960 and 1961 but can find no record of a Will or Administration for the estate of Margaret Norris. The provisions of her husband's Will may have made it unnecessary for Margaret to make a Will.
