THE LIFE OF ROBERT EDGERLEY

 

Robert Edgerley never married. At the time of the 1901 Census he was 38 years old and living with his mother, brother Joseph and sister Ann Alice.

He died on 5 February 1916 and was buried in the churchyard of Christ Church in Charnock Richard 3 days later.

The only other information I have comes from his Will:

 

"Robert Edgerley, of Hill Cottage, Charnock Richard, Chorley, Lancashire, Poultry Keeper, died 5 February 1916. PROBATE Lancaster 14 March 1916 to Joseph Edgerley, Dock Porter, Ann Alice Edgerley, spinster, and Sarah Fazakerley (wife of John Fazakerley). Effects: £961 11s 4d:

I Robert Edgerley of Hill Cottage, Charnock Richard, near Chorley in the County of Lancaster, poultry keeper, hereby revoke all former Wills and testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and declare this to be my last Will ("and testament" crossed through).

I give devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever of which I may die possessed or over which I may at the time of my death have any general power of appointment or disposition by Will unto my brother Joseph Edgerley and my sisters Ann Alice Edgerley and Sarah Fazakerley in equal shares as tenants in common for their own use absolutely and I declare that if any of them the said Joseph Edgerley, Ann Alice Edgerley and Sarah Fazakerley shall die in my lifetime leaving a child or children living at my death who being a son or sons attain the age of twenty-one years or being a daughter or daughters attain that age or marry under that age then and in every such case the last mentioned child or children shall take (and if more than one equally between them) the share which his her or their parent would have taken under this my Will if such parent had survived me.

And I appoint my said brother Joseph Edgerley and my sisters Ann Alice Edgerley and Sarah Fazakerley to be the Executors of this my Will.

In witness whereof, I have to this my last Will and Testament set my hand this sixth day of April one thousand nine hundred and nine. (signed) Robert Edgerley

Signed by the said Robert Edgerley as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of both present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses. On the 14th March 1916 Probate of this Will was granted at Lancaster to Joseph Edgerley, Ann Alice Edgerley and Sarah Fazakerley (wife of John Fazakerley) the Executors."
