Henry Ruben Hughes
Hughes, Henry Ruben, of 73 Town Road, Croston, near Preston, Lancashire, died 25 October 1927.
Probate Liverpool 24 November (1927) to Sarah Ann Hughes, widow. Effects £978 3s 4d.

Henry wrote his Will on the 3rd of October 1926. He appointed his wife Sarah Ann sole executrix and left his entire estate to her.

The Will was witnessed by Sarah's niece Emily Eileen Chadwick of 9 Out Lane, Croston, and John Crosland Castle of Yarrow House, Croston, a retired teacher.

Probate Lancaster 26 March (1938) to Charles Joseph Eastwood, solicitor, and Marjorie Eileen Chadwick, spinster. Effects £942 16s 4d.

Sarah Ann wrote her Will on the 25th of August 1937. She appointed Charles Joseph Eastwood of Preston, solicitor, and her niece Marjorie Eileen Chadwick to be her Executors. She left £40 to Veronica Dalton, a spinster who was living with her; £10 to Margaret Jane Dalton, the wife of Thomas Dalton of 16 Church Street, Croston; £10 to Theresa Harrison, also of 16 Church Street, a widow; £10 to Jane Ellen Silcock, the wife of Thomas Silcock of Wood Lane Farm, Mawdesley, and left £100 to be invested and the proceeds used for the upkeep of two family graves in the burial ground of the Parish Church at Croston.

She left all of her shares in Ribble Motor Services Ltd. of Frenchwood Street, Preston, to her niece Marjorie Eileen Chadwick and directed that the rest of her estate was to be converted to money and her debts, funeral, and testamentary expences paid, as well as the various legacies laid out in the Will.

The residue of the estate was to be divided equally between her nephew Norman William Chadwick and her nieces Dorothy Jane McAllester and Marjorie Eileen Chadwick.

Interestingly, she directed that none of her furniture or personal effects were to be sold in Croston.

The Will was witnessed by M. Jones and Frederick S. Wilkinson, clerks with W. Banks & Co., Solicitors, Preston.
