The Family of James Roocroft

James Roocroft was the son of John Roocroft and Elizabeth Roocroft, apparently distant cousins, who were married on 12 November 1845 at St Wifrid's Church in Standish.

James Roocroft was baptized in Coppull, Lancashire on 10 January 1847 by H.W. Jackson.

At the time of his baptism his father was described as an Innkeeper.

Elizabeth died at the age of 36 years on 18 September 1863 and John married Agnes Ryding in 1868.

At the time of the 1871 Census they were living in Coppull:

John Roocroft died on 2 September 1882, aged 63 years and was buried 4 days later at the Parish Church in Coppul with his first wife Elizabeth:

'To the Memory of Elizabeth Roocroft, died September 18th 1863 age 36 years,
"In Pain and Care She's Gone to Heavenly Rest, Regretted Most by Those Who Knew Her Best"
Also John Roocroft of Ulnes Walton, Beloved husband of the above,
who died September 2nd 1882, aged 63 years.
"Therefore ye also be ready, for on such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh".
Also Ellen, daughter of the above and dearly loved wife of Robert Eccles,
who died March 1st 1931, aged 73.'

John's second wife Agnes died on 18 February 1906, aged 83 years, and was buried in a separate grave at Coppul Parish Church:

'Sacred to the Memory of Agnes Roocroft of Coppull,
who died February 18th 1906, aged 83 years'
