FAMILY HISTORY: NORRIS

THE FAMILY OF LAWRENCE & JANE SINGLETON

 

Lawrence Singleton was the only son of Ann Singleton, a spinster, who was for many years a servant working for Hugh Norris at Mill House End in Croston. Lawrence's younger sister Jane was probably the daughter of Hugh Norris but this is unproven. The identity of Lawrence's father may never be known.

Lawrence married Jane Clarkson on 27 December 1846 at St Michael & All Angels Parish Church in Croston, and had at least 8 children.

At the time of the 1871 Census Lawrence and his family were living in Croston with two of his sister Jane's children staying with them:

Jane Singleton died in January 1895 and was buried at Croston on the 15th of that month by A.G. Rawstorne. Lawrence died 11 years later and was buried on 16 April 1906 by H. Wild. Neither Jane nor Lawrence left a Will.
