The Family of James Iddon

James Iddon was the son of Thomas Iddon and Ellen Burthom, who were married at the Parish Church in Croston on 3 March 1816.

James was baptized in the same church on 15 December 1819 and was one of at least 5 children.

How James' parents felt about him marrying a widow who was 17 years older than him will never be known but, after Jane's early death in 1843 - aged just 39 years - James and his young daughter Alice returned to live with his parents. James had learned his trade from his father and worked for him for most of his life.

Ellen (Burthom) Iddon died in 1868 and Thomas died a few years later in 1874. They are buried in an unmarked grave at Croston Parish Church.

After his parent's death James and his sister Alice continued to live in the family home. He never remarried.
