FAMILY HISTORY: NORRIS

THE LIFE OF ANNE NORRIS

BURIAL RECORD:

BURIAL AT ST. MICHAEL & ALL ANGELS PARISH CHURCH, CROSTON, LANCASHIRE:
Buried 29 January 1745, Anne Norris of Croston, spinster

The burial register does not give Anne's age or state exactly where she is buried. However, there appears to have been at least one Norris family vault under the floor of the church and it is possible that Anne was buried there.

While some of the early burial records don't state where a person was buried, several that do state that the burial was "about the centre of the centre isle".

This photo shows the centre isle at about the point where the vault may be. If there is any marking on the floor to show the exact position of the vault it is covered by carpeting and pews.

According to the Vicar of the church, it was usually the wealthy and prominent members of the community that were buried beneath the floor but those burials had to be stopped when they realized that the burials were undermining the foundations of the church and causing the church tower to lean noticeably.
