FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF POLLY NIXON

Polly Nixon was the daughter of Abraham Nixon and Mary Ward, who were married at the Collegiate Church of St Mary, St Denys and St George (now known as Manchester Cathedral) in Manchester on 16 October 1870.

Polly, their 6th surviving child, was born in the Newton Heath area of Manchester in about 1885, and by 1891 the family had settled in Horwich, near Bolton, Lancashire:

During their life together Abraham and Mary had 15 children, losing 8 of those in childhood. They seem to have moved around quite a bit during the early years of their married life before finally settling in Horwich.

By 1911, their daughter Edith had married John Swarbrick and was living in Carnforth. I've not yet been able to find Polly in 1911, she was not yet married but was not living with her parents at Brunswick Street:

Sometime after 1911 Abraham and Mary moved to the Carnforth area, perhaps to be closer to their daughters, Edith and Polly. They both died there in 1917 and were buried in the churchyard at St Oswald's Church in nearby Warton:
"In Memory of Abraham Nixon
Died Feb. 3rd 1917, aged 69 years
Also Mary, his wife
Died Oct. 10th 1917, aged 69 years"
