MONUMENT INSCRIPTIONS:

"IHS - Pray for the soul of John Swarbrick,
who died July 6th 1893, aged 58 years.
Also for Mary Jane, the beloved wife of John Swarbrick,
died 3rd April 1880, aged 42 years.
Eleanor Gertrude, youngest daughter of the above,
died February 8th 1880, aged 2 years 3 months.
Also for John Townsend, second son of the above,
who died February 18th 1897, aged 30 years.
Also for Elizabeth Swarbrick, second daughter of the above,
who died Nov. 15th, 1925, aged 56 years.
Eternal Rest give to them O' Lord
may perpetual light shine upon them.
Also for Margaret Farrell, daughter of the above
John Swarbrick, who died Jan. 2nd, 1936, aged 68 years."
(Buried in the Catholic Section of Preston Cemetery. John's second wife Mary Elizabeth and his eldest son George are also buried in this grave but are not listed on the headstone.)

BURIAL RECORDS:
Eleanor Swarbrick, age 2 years, of 15 East View, Preston, was buried on 12 February 1880, in grave C-436 in the RC section of Preston Cemetery. It was the 1st interment and she was buried 18 ft deep.
Mary Jane Swarbrick, age 42, of 15 East View, Preston, was buried on 6 April 1880, in grave C-436 in the RC section of Preston Cemetery. It was the 2nd interment and she was buried 16 ft deep.
John Swarbrick, age 58, of 15 East View, Preston, was buried on 5 July 1893, in grave C-436 in the RC section of Preston Cemetery. It was the 3rd interment and he was buried 16 ft deep.
John Townsend Swarbrick, age 30, of 4 Black Horse Yard, Preston, was buried on 20 February 1897 in grave C-436 in the RC section of Preston Cemetery. The 4th interment, he was buried 12 ft deep.
Mary Elizabeth Swarbrick, age 82, of 50 Deepdale Road, Preston, was buried on 19 March 1920 in grave C-436 in the RC section of Preston Cemetery. She was the 5th interment and was buried 10 ft deep. (She is not listed on the headstone)
Elizabeth Swarbrick, age 56, of 76 Woodhall Road, Old Swan, Liverpool, was buried on 18 November 1925 in grave C-436 in the RC section of Preston Cemetery. She was the 6th interment.
Margaret Farrell, age 68, the wife of James Farrell, of 76 Woodhall Road, Old Swan, Liverpool, was buried on 4 January 1936 in grave C-436 in the RC section of Preston Cemetery. The 7th interment.
George Swarbrick, age 75, of the Convent of the Little Sisters, Fulwood, was buried on 27 August 1940 in grave C-436 in the RC section of Preston Cemetery. His was the 8th and last interment and he was not listed on the headstone.

 

NOTES:
1: The grave was purchased by John Swarbrick on 12 February 1880 for his infant daughter Eleanor. It contains 8 people but only 6 are listed on the headstone.
2: The above information is taken from the headstone at Preston Cemetery, microfilmed copies of the Preston Guardian and Lancashire Daily Post newspapers held at the Harris Library, and from microfilmed copies of the original burial registers held at the Lancashire Archives in Preston.
