THE FAMILY OF MARY ELIZABETH FENTON
Mary Elizabeth Fenton was the daughter of John Fenton and Ann Reay, who were married in Newcastle in about 1827. Mary Elizabeth was the sixth of at least seven
children and their fifth daughter. John Fenton was a successful carpet manufacturer and the family seemed to have lived a comfortable life in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. |

John Fenton Sr died on 14 February 1882 and Administration of his estate, valued at £1933 11s 5d, was granted to his daughter Jane Ann Fenton on 25 March 1882. Jane Ann and her sister Louisa remained in the family home at 3 Rye Hill Terrace after their father's death: |

Jane Ann Fenton died on 13 September 1896 and Administration of her estate was granted to her sister Mary Elizabeth Swarbrick on 7 October 1896.
Her personal estate was valued at £72 18s 4d. After Jane Ann's death Louisa went to stay with her widowed sister Mary Elizabeth Swarbrick in Preston and was listed at her sister's home on the night of the 1901 Census. She died in Preston in 1910, aged 81 years. |
