FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF WILLIAM & MARTHA SWARBRICK

INFORMATION FROM WILLS:

William Swarbrick, a widower, late of Rose-Place, Liverpool, a millwright, wrote his Will while an inmate of Brownlow Hill Hospital in Liverpool.

He appointed his brother Robert Swarbrick sole Executor of his estate and left his entire estate to Robert, "...for his kindness and affection towards me."

The estate included any estate to which William was entitled under the Will of his sister Elizabeth Swarbrick, spinster, deceased; and his uncle George Hodgson of Worcester, deceased.

William wrote his undated Will sometime in 1880 and his signature was witnessed by Thomas Snowden and John Frame.

William's brother - and sole Executor - died before having William's Will administered. This seems to have caused some confusion and Letters of Administration were granted to William's daughter Mary Swarbrick of 12 bank Parade, Preston on 25 June 1884, but this was revoked on 20 January 1886 and Probate of the Will was granted to Robert's Executors, Edward James Chevalier and John Thompson Smith at Liverpool on 22 February 1886, Effects: £230.00 Re-sworn 1886: £275.00.

William Swarbrick, late of 65 Rose-Place, Liverpool, died at Mill Road Hospital, Everton, Liverpool on 3 April 1882.

Martha Swarbrick (nee' Winstanley) died before William but there is no record of any Will or Administration of her estate

NOTES:
1: 12 Bank Parade in Preston was the home of William's sister Mary, the wife of William Hayes. Mary Swarbrick worked for her aunt and uncle as a housekeeper.
2: The Probate records list William as having died at Mill Road Hospital in Everton but his Death Certificate lists his place of death as The Workhouse, Everton. It is possible that they were one and the same.
3: The above information is taken from a transcript of the Will held at the Lancashire Archives.
