| NOTES: | |
| 1: | The handwriting in the registers is often difficult to read and the names of some clergy is questionable. |
| 2: | The Twins, John & George were baptized privately, which is almost certainly an indication that they were not expected to survive. Although I have not yet found their death or burial information, I suspect that they died shortly after birth. |
| 3: | Alice Elizabeth and George (2) were born after the family moved from London to Plaistow, Essex and I have not yet found their birth or baptism records. Their birthdates are taken from their death records. |
| 4: | A Portmanteau is a large suitcase - presumably leather in Alfred's case. |
| 5: | As a rule, early Church of England baptism registers did not record the child's date of birth, but many clergy entered the birthdates in as additional information. |
| 6: | Church of England baptism registers do not normally record the names of Godparents. |
| 7: | The above information is taken from scanned images at www.ancestry.co.uk. |
