NOTES:
The handwriting in the registers is often difficult to read and the names of some clergy is questionable.
The Twins, John & George were baptized privately, which is almost certainly an indication that they were not expected to survive. Although I have not yet found their death or burial information, I suspect that they died shortly after birth.
Alice Elizabeth and George (2) were born after the family moved from London to Plaistow, Essex and I have not yet found their birth or baptism records. Their birthdates are taken from their death records.
A Portmanteau is a large suitcase - presumably leather in Alfred's case.
As a rule, early Church of England baptism registers did not record the child's date of birth, but many clergy entered the birthdates in as additional information.
Church of England baptism registers do not normally record the names of Godparents.
The above information is taken from scanned images at www.ancestry.co.uk.
