FAMILY HISTORY: MORTON

THE LIFE OF SARAH WEIGHTS

Sarah Weights was born on the 11th of February 1811 in Barnacre with Bonds, Garstang, Lancashire the daughter of William Weights and Dorothy Carter. She was the eighth of their ten children.

She, like her older sister Dorothy, never married and made her living as a dressmaker in Garstang.

I knew so little about Sarah that I wasn't going to give her a page of her own, but recently I discovered her Will and it contained so much detail that I decided it was worthy of inclusion.

Sarah was a devout Catholic and left legacies to her parish priest and to the Roman Catholic schools at Barnacre with Bonds. She also left money to be used to purchase two stained glass windows for the church and I am anxious to visit St Mary and Michael's to see if the windows are dedicated to her memory.

Other than her Will, the only other information I have about Sarah comes from the various Census entries:
