THE FAMILY OF WILLIAM MORLEY

 

William Morley was the son of John Morley and Jane Walmsley, who were married at St Mary's Church, Penwortham, in 1852. He was the forth of five children (their first son), and was baptized at St Mary's on 16 February 1862.

At the time of the 1881 Census William Morley was a young man living with his parents and younger brother in Penwortham:

William's mother Jane died on 20 January 1889 at the age of 57 and his father died on 5 May 1900, aged 67. They are buried in the churchyard of St Mary's Church in Penwortham along with William's sister Mary Morley, his first wife Mary Ann (Ascroft) Morley, and his second wife Catherine (Ascroft) Morley.

 

MONUMENT INSCRIPTIONS:

"Sacred to the Memory of Jane,
wife of John Morley of Penwortham,
who died 20 January 1889, aged 57 years.
Also Mary Ann, wife of William Morley,
who died 24 December 1891, aged 22 years.
Also the above named John Morley,
who died 5 may 1900, aged 67 years.
Also, Catherine, wife of the above William Morley,
who died 28th September 1905 aged 32 years.
Also Mary Morley, daughter of the above,
who died 19 June 1929, aged 75 years."
