Jane Chadwick
Chadwick, Jane of Croston, Lancashire, widow, died 6 October 1906. Probate Lancaster 2 November (1906) to Hugh William Chadwick, Surveyor, and Harry Cartmell and Charles Eastwood, Solicitors. Effects £2973 8s 6d.

Jane Chadwick, of Croston, widow, wrote her Will on 3 September 1906 and appointed her son Hugh William Chadwick and Harry Cartmell and Charles Eastwood, solicitors, as her Executors and Trustees.

She left all of her plate, jewels, trinkets, linen, china, glass, books, pictures, prints, furniture and other household effects to her daughter Sarah Ann Chadwick absolutely.

The Will mentions an Indenture of Settlement between Jane and the Reverend James Frederick Goggin dated 9 October 1874 regarding trust premises and securities which she left to her Executors in trust for the purposes and directions contained in the Will.

All other estate, both real and personal, was to be used for the trusts and directions in the Will. The Trustees were to sell her real estate and convert her personal estate into money. From that, her debts, funeral and testamentary expences were to be paid. The Trustees were to invest £1000 and pay the income to her son Hugh William Chadwick for his lifetime, then to his children upon reaching the age of 21 or - if female - marrying before that age. Another sum of £1000 was to be invested with the proceeds paid to her daughter Sarah Ann Chadwick during her lifetime for her sole and separate use, independent of any husband, then to her children. If Sarah died without children the income from the investment would be paid to the children of Hugh William Chadwick.

All of the rest, residue and remainder of her trust property was to be paid to Hugh William Chadwick and Sarah Ann Chadwick in equal shares.

The solicitors acting as her trustees were to be paid for their professional services to the estate.

Jane signed her Will in the presence of H.V. Sames MBCM of Bank House, Croston and George Shaw, a clerk with W. Banks & Co, solicitors of Preston, who signed as witnesses.

On the 2nd of November 1906 Probate was granted at Lancaster to Hugh William Chadwick, Harry Cartmell and Charles Eastwood, the Executors.
