FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF ELIZABETH MONICA BUTLER

Elizabeth Monica was the youngest daughter of Richard Butler and Agnes Holden, who were married in the Garstang district - probably Scorton - in 1866. They had five children:

Edwin Augustin Butler, born c. 1868 - died 22 February 1920, age 51 years
William Francis Butler, born c. 1870
Anne Helena Butler, born c. 1874
Mary Agnes Butler, born c. 1877 - died 28 November 1896, aged 19 years
Elizabeth Monica, born c. 1880 - died c. October 1929, aged 49 years

Elizabeth and her siblings were probably baptized at at St Mary & St James Catholic Church in Scorton, but these records are still held at the church and I have not yet seen them.

Elizabeth was just 11 months old at the time of the 1881 Census:

Agnes lived as his widow for another 20 years and died on Saturday, 19 June 1926. She was buried with her husband on 22 June 1926 in their private family grave at Bonds.

Also buried in this grave are their young daughter Mary Agnes, who was buried on 2 December 1896, aged 19 years, and their eldest son Edwin, who was buried on 25 February 1920, aged 51 years.
