The Family of Joseph William Walmsley

FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF JOSEPH WILLIAM WALMSLEY

Joseph William was the sixth child born to John Walmsley and Annie Hacking, who were married in the Preston district in 1867. Although only five lived past infancy, they had eight children:

	(unnamed male) Walmsley, born 1868 - died 1868 Elizabeth Ellen Walmsley, born 1870 - died c. 1877 Margaret Ann Walmsley, born c. 1873 John Richard Walmsley, born c. 1876 Thomas Walmsley, born 1877 - died 1877 Joseph William Walmsley, born 1878 Alice Jane Walmsley, born 1881 Mary Teresa Walmsley, born c. 1884

The births of the first two children were registered in the Broughton sub-district of Preston and the others - with the exception of Thomas, whose birth was registered in Preston - were registered in the Alston sub-district. The family had settled in Grimsargh, near Preston, by the time of the 1881 Census:
