The Family of James Newsham

James Newsham was the son of Robert Newsham and Alice Wallbank, who were married in Preston in 1897:

	Robert Newsham, 23, bachelor, warper, of 37 Robert Street, son of William Newsham, soldier (deceased) and Alice Wallbank, 22, spinster, rover, of 15 St Thomas Street, daughter of John Wallbank, spinner, were married at St Thomas' Church, Preston on 29 September 1897, after Banns, by G.R. Plews, M.A. The witnesses were William McGrath and Hannah McGrath.

James and Alice had six children. James was their second child and first son. He was baptized at St Thomas' Church in Preston:

Robert Newsham, of 18 Emmett Street, Preston, carter, died in 1945, aged 68 years, and was buried in a private grave in the Church of England section of Preston Cemetery, JJ-675 on 13 September 1945. His was the first burial in the grave, which was purchased by his widow Alice. He was buried 9 feet deep - which leads me to suspect that the grave was meant for just two burials.

Alice Newsham, of 38 Birley Bank, Preston, housewife, age 86, died in September 1962 and was buried with her late husband on 11 September 1962 in the private grave JJ-675.

1:	Robert Newsham signed his marriage register with an X. All others signed their own names.
2:	Alice's burial was the 2nd interment but this and the depth was not recorded in the burial register.
