FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF FRANK BELFIELD

Thomas Belfield, who was born in Butterworth, Rochdale, Lancashire in about 1860, the son of Benjamin and Drusilla (Knott) Belfield, who were married in the Oldham area in 1859.

Ada Brook, the daughter of John and Betty Brook, was born in Heywood, Lancashire in about 1860.

They were married in or near Castleton, Lancashire in 1884.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Birmingham, Warwickshire, where they were living at the time of both the 1901 and 1911 Censuses:

Ada Belfield died on 21 May 1948 and was on 25 May 1948 in a private grave, GG-643, in the Church of England section of Preston Cemetery.

Although the burial register describes her as "wife", the National Probate Index entry refers to her as a widow:

"BELFIELD, Ada, of 83 Adelphi-street, Preston, Lancashire, widow, died 21 May 1948 at Sharoe Green Hospital, Fulwood near Preston. Administration London, 9 September (1948) to Frank Belfield, sheet metal worker."

I believe that Thomas Belfield died in Birmingham in 1925 and Ada moved to Preston to be nearer her son.

NOTES:
1: Ada's grave was purchased by her son Frank, and she is the only person buried in the grave.
2: The above information is taken from microfilmed copies of the Preston Cemetery burial registers held at the Lancashire Archives, and census records on-line.
