FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF ANN CROFT

Edwin Croft, of 5 Lawson Street, son of Thomas Croft, and Ellen Titterington, of 33 Tuson Street, were married at St Walburge's Catholic Church, Preston on 6 June 1889, by James Fanning, S.J.
The witnesses were John Croft of 5 Lawson Street & Mary Ann Crombleholme of Park Road, both in Preston.

The space for the name of Ellen's father had a line drawn through it, indicating that she was illegitimate.

Edwin and Ellen had four children - Mary Elizabeth Cross, who was born on 22 May 1890 and was baptized at
St Wilfrid's Catholic Chapel on 25 May 1890; Thomas Croft, who was born on 1 December 1892 and baptized in the same chapel on 6 December 1892; Margaret Ann Croft, who was born on 19 April 1893 and was baptized at St Walburge's Catholic Church on 23 April 1893; and finally Ann Croft, who was born on 31 March 1900 and was baptized on 1 April 1900, also at St Walburge's. Ann was baptized by Father William Splaine, S.J. and her Godparents were John Riley and Ann Croft.

The baptism entry contains a note recording the fact that Ann married James Leo Swarbrick in the same church on 5 June 1924.
