NOTES:
1: At the time of their marriage William was a Colour Sergeant in the British Army. He had just returned to England the year before after spending nearly ten years stationed in Canada. It is not known at this stage whether Jane was British or Canadian - or whether they were married in England or Canada.
2: Within the space of 11 months, Jane had lost her husband and her only son. What became of her after July 1856 is unknown.
3: William's birth and baptism information is taken from the original baptism records held at the Lancashire Record Office. Information regarding his death is taken from The Preston Chronicle newspaper. Information about William's marriage, child and military career was provided by my cousin John David Swarbrick.
