The Family of Thomas and Alice Swarbrick: Burial Records

MONUMENT INSCRIPTIONS:

"IHS - Out of the depths I have called to thee O Lord,
Lord hear my voice.
Pray for the soul of George Swarbrick, plasterer,
who died on the 11th May 1859, aged 51 years.
A kind benefactor and sincere friend,
he was much respected by all who knew him.
Pray also for the soul of Thomas Swarbrick,
who departed this life on the 19th of March 1872, aged 62 years.
Also for Alice, wife of the above Thomas Swarbrick,
who died April 15th, 1875, aged 64 years.
On their souls, sweet Jesus, have mercy."

BURIAL RECORDS:

Thomas and several members of his family are buried in Private Grave C-349 in the Catholic Section of Preston Cemetery, which was purchased by Thomas' brother William upon the death of their brother George Swarbrick in 1859. It contains 8 burials.:

	George Swarbrick, age 51, of Chapel Yard, buried 15 May 1859. His was the 1st interment.

	Thomas Swarbrick, age 62, of 46 Upper Walker Street, buried 21 March 1872. His was the 2nd interment.

	Alice (Daggers) Swarbrick, age 63, of 46 Upper Walker Street, buried 17 April 1875, the 3rd interment.

	Alice (Johnson) Swarbrick, age 42, of 9 Haydock Street, buried 17 January 1877. Wife of John Swarbrick, hers was the 4th interment.

	Robert McCoy Swarbrick, age 1 month, son of John & Alice (Johnson) Swarbrick, of 9 Haydock Street, buried on 7 February 1877. His was the 5th interment.

	John Swarbrick, age 57, of 58 Frank Street, buried 16 May 1892. His was the 6th interment.

	Annie (Ainsworth) Swarbrick, age about 64, of 12 Salter Street, buried 22 November 1928. Second wife of James Swarbrick, hers was the 7th interment.

	Ada Halliwell, age 65, buried 7 May 1949. A widow, she was the last to be buried in the grave.

NOTES:
1:	Thomas and Alice's daughter Margaret died in 1854 before Preston Cemetery opened and I have not yet found her place of burial.
2:	I am not certain who Ada Halliwell was but she may have been the sister of Annie (Anisworth) Swarbrick. An Ada Ainsworth married a Joseph Halliwell in 1903.
3:	The above information is taken from the headstone at Preston Cemetery, microfilmed copies of Preston newspapers at the Harris Library, and microfilmed copies of the Preston Cemetery burial registers held at the Lancashire Archives in Preston.
