  • You may not, except with my express written permission, distribute or commercially exploit the contents of this website.

Now the equally boring explanation:

Why have I copyrighted this website? The information contained in this website was collected many years ago by volunteers working at St Wilfrid's Church. They transcribed the information, arranged the names in alphabetical order, and deposited the transcripts at Lancashire Archives in Preston. Some years later the pages were bound into hard-back volumes by Lancashire Archives and are available to view in the public searchroom. This website is an original work based on the information in the printed transcripts. This website is the result of many months of hard work - retyping the original transcripts into spreadsheets, creating versions in both date and surname order, then creating web pages to display the information on-line.

The website also includes further information on many of the people buried in the cemetery that was not part of the original transcripts and is based on hundreds of hours of research, using on-line resources, newspaper accounts, probate records, original baptism, marriage and burial registers, and other primary and secondary resources.

I make this information freely available to researchers and interested parties, and it would be unfair and morally wrong for someone to copy the bulk of this information into their own website and/or attempt to profit from the work I and others have done.

I have experienced this type of copyright infringement in the past and found instances where people have copied pages or whole sections of one or more of my websites into their own website, without giving any indication as to the source of the information. This is, simply put, theft.

Please use this website to further your family history research, but please also respect my rights under the law.

Thank you.
