The Family of Samuel Widgey & Harriet Rebecca Buckner: Census Returns

In 1851 Samuel Buckner was living with his mother and father and in 1861 he was living with his widowed mother. For those entries see his parent's Census page.

I have not been able to find him in the 1871 Census when he would have been a 29 year old bachelor. He married the following year.

On 8 May 1873, Samuel moved his family to Canada. The Census in Canada uses various different formats and the tables below are simplified versions of the actual records.

2:	Although listed in the Census as Maria Buckner, Maria was actually the child of Harriet and her first husband Joseph Albert Burgess and would have actually been Maria Burgess.
3:	The 1881 Canadian Census did not record people's relationship or the exact address.

1:	Living in East York, Toronto, Ontario.
2:	For some reason, the children are listed as being Baptists - almost certainly an error.
3:	Harriet's name was misspelled Harrate and Charles' name was spelled Charls.
4:	Instead of Origin, the 1891 Census listed the birthplace of each person's mother and father - in each case here that was England.
5:	This Census did not record whether children were attending school, instead recording whether a person could read and write. All members of the Buckner family were listed as being able to read and write.

3:	The 7 year old Samuel was the son of Samuel & Harriet's unmarried daughter Rachel.
4:	All of the dates of birth given are incorrect, some are out by a year, some are completely wrong.
5:	The year of Immigration to Canada was listed as 1872 for Samuel & Harriet.
6:	While listed as of English origin, all were listed as of Canadian Nationality.
7:	This was the first Canadian census to record a persons colour. All of the people on this page were white.

5:	The dates of birth given for Samuel & Harriet are out by a year. Young Samuel's is correct.
6:	The year of Samuel & Harriet's immigration to Canada was listed as 1875.
7:	While listed as of English origin, all were listed as of Canadian Nationality.
