| 1: | James Gerald was a very large baby and his mother was very petite. The delivery was difficult and forceps had to be used. In the struggle the baby's skull was crushed and he was left badly brain damaged. According to his father James Edward Madden, the baby lived 2 weeks and died in his arms. |
| 2: | According to his death certificate, James Gerald died at his parent's home, 745 Gerrard Street East in Toronto, of convulsions - probably due to a cerebral hemorrhage. |
| 3: | James Edward and Mary lived apart for much of their marriage and divorced after 24 years, 4 months. |

SECOND MARRIAGE:
| During his marriage to Mary Newberry, J. E. Madden fathered at least two other children, Gordon and Gary. A few years after he and Mary divorced, J. E. Madden married again and had two more children, Paula and the late Paul Madden. Further details are withheld out of respect for his widow and all of his children. |
