1: William and Mary Ann signed their own names to the marriage licence and, although difficult to read, it appears that William spelled his middle name 'Ervin'.
2: The marriage licence did not record the place of marriage but it would appear that A.J. Beale was the pastor at the First Evangelical Church in Franklin.
3: According to the marriage licence, William's first wife died on 14 December 1896.
4: Their adopted son, William P Madden, was actually their nephew - the son of Mary Ann's younger brother, William Madden and his first wife Mary Ella (McCue) Madden.
