Sometime after 1891 George and Eleanor separated and Eleanor took their daughter Mary Jane to live with her family, who by then had moved to Chester. George stayed behind in Preston.

2: Separated from his wife and children, George was boarding with another family. Still in the pub trade, his fortunes had come down from running his own pub to working in someone else's.

2: Eleanor was living with her mother and stepfather and working for them at their pub. Both Eleanor and Mary Jane were listed as Workers "at home". For the full entry see the page regarding her family.

Although the age recorded in the GRO Death Index is off by a couple of years, an Eleanor Swarbrick died in Chester in 1907, and this may be why George Swarbrick described himself as a widower in 1911:

3: Although the information was only supposed to be recorded for mothers, the return records that George was the father of one child and that the child was living.
