THE LIFE OF JOHN TOWNSEND SWARBRICK

PROBATE RECORDS:

 

John Townsend Swarbrick, of 4 Black Horse Yard, Preston, a Draper's Assistant, wrote his Will on 17 February 1897. He appointed his friend George Shaw, Solicitor's Clerk, of Preston as his sole Executor and Trustee.

He gave his watch and chain, clothes, and wearing apparel to his brother William.

All other real and personal estate was to be converted to cash and his debts, funeral and testamentary expenses were to be paid, and the following legacies, free from duty and charges, were to be paid from his estate: £20 to his brother William, £20 to Alice Woods, wife of James Woods of 4 Black Horse Yard, Preston, "...with whom I reside, as a recognition of her many kindnesses to me.."

The residue of his estate was to be held in trust for his sister Isabella Swarbrick. All monies left to females was for their sole and separate use, free from marital control.

The Will was signed by John Townsend Swarbrick, and witnessed by Walker Silson and John H. Hewith, clerks with Messrs. W. Banks and Co., Solicitors, Preston.

Probate was granted at Lancaster on 9 October 1897 to George Shaw. Effects: £810, 1s.
