FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF JAMES & MARGARET FARRELL

CENSUS INFORMATION:

The 1891 Census was taken on the night of 5 April and James and Margaret were married on 25 April, so were still single on the night of the Census. As yet, I have not yet found either of them in 1891.

1: Living at 71 Alma Road, Southampton, Hampshire. (RG13-1068, folio 116, page 45)
2: James Farrell was away from home and, based on the fact that they lived in Southampton, I suspect he may have worked on ships and was at sea on the night of the Census.
3: Elizabeth Swarbrick and Mary Atkins (the elder) were Margaret's younger sisters.
4: Hants is an abbreviation for Hampshire and Staff is an abbreviation of Staffordshire.
5: The above information is from the census returns on-line at www.ancestry.co.uk.

I have searched the 1911 Census using every imaginable variation in the spelling of Farrell but cannot find any member of this family in 1911. It may be that they were staying somewhere other than England at the time, that their name has been so badly misread that it is impossible to find, or that their house was missed altogether.
