FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK
THE FAMILY OF WILLIAM & MARY HAYES
NEWSPAPER REPORT:
"THE FUNERAL OF MR. W. HAYES, J.P. The remains of Mr. W. Hayes, J.P., of Preston were
interred this morning at the Preston Cemetery. The body was removed to St. Wilfrid's church last night, and placed before the
sanctuary. Requiem Mass was celebrated at ten o'clock to-day before a large congregation by Father McGuire, who attended the
deceased gentleman during his last illness, and the same priest conducted the service at the graveside. There was a large number
of mourners present and the coffin was covered with choice wreaths, but the funeral was not of a public character. Mr. Hayes
will be greatly missed by the poor of this town, amongst whom, in an unostentatious manner, he did a great deal of good." (from The Lancashire Daily Post, Saturday, 11 December 1895) |
