DEATH NOTICES:
"On the 10th inst., at Myerscough Mill, Mr. William Swarbrick, aged 67"
(From The Preston Guardian, Saturday, 13 November 1880)
"BOARD OF GUARDIANS...Vote of Condolence. - The Chairman said he was sorry to announce the loss of a good member of that Board - one of the oldest and best they had. He would propose that the Clerk be instructed to write a letter of condolence with his family. He was speaking of Mr. William Swarbrick, who was a good member and faithful guardian. - Mr. Porter seconded. - Mr. Crook said there was not a more honourable and straightforward member of the Board than Mr. Swarbrick, and not one who would do his duty more fearlessly. They could not do more than send a vote of condolence to his family. The Clerk said the deceased had been a guardian and overseer for 24 or 25 years."
(From The Preston Guardian, Saturday, 13 November 1880)
"THE LATE MR. SWARBRICK. - A letter was read from Mr. James Swarbrick, of Myerscough Mill, acknowledging the Board's letter of condolence, and thanking the guardians for their vote of sympathy. - Mr. Benson said by the death of Mr. Swarbrick they had lost a member of the School Attendance Committee and Rural Sanitary Authority. He thought it was requisite that another person should be appointed, and he thought the man most fitted to sit in the deceased (sic) place was Mr. Cookson, who came from the same district. He proposed that that gentleman be appointed. - Mr. Hall seconded, and it was carried. - Mr. Cookson said he thanked them sincerely for placing him in the position which had been occupied by such a useful member of that Board as Mr. Swarbrick. They must not expect him to perform his duty in the same manner as the deceased, but he would do his best."
(From The Preston Guardian, Saturday, 27 November 1880)
