NOTES:
Some researchers believe that Ann Molyneux was a widow when she married Hugh Norris and that her son was therefore legitimate but she is described in the marriage register as a spinster and I can find no record of an earlier marriage or the baptism of James Molyneux.
If my suspicions are correct, Hugh and Ann would have been in their 40s when they married and this may be the reason that they had only three children.
Hugh's age is not recorded in the burial registers at St Michael's Church in Croston so it is difficult to calculate his year of birth. The burial records also fail to record exactly where he was buried but I suspect that he was buried under the floor of the church - as was his wife several years later.
The above information is taken from Baptism, Marriage and Burial records held at the Lancashire Record Office in Preston, and from the monument inscriptions at Croston Parish Church.
