2: Aighton, Bailey & Chaigley are a collection of hamlets in the Ribble Valley. Robert and his family were living in the hamlet of Aighton.
3: The abbreviation 'Ag. Lab.' was short for Agricultural Labourer.
4: Timothy Lund was described as an M.S., which I believe meant Male Servant.

 

By 1851, all but their youngest child had left home. William had married and started his own family, while the younger children were probably working or entered into apprenticeships.

2: Also living at Stockbridge at this time was a William Seed, age 32, who I suspect was Robert's younger brother. I know that a William Seed was a witness to Robert and Ellen's marriage in 1822 but I will need to research this further.

 

By census night 1861 Robert Seed Jr had married and moved to Blackburn. His older sister, Elizabeth, had come back to live at home, perhaps during her mother's absence:

2: Robert's wife was not at home on the night of the census and I have not yet found her. It is possible that she was at home and was inadvertently left off the census form.
3: Also living at Stockbridge at this time was a John Seed, age 46, who may have been another of Robert's younger brothers.

2: There is a note written in the extreme right of the page which is difficult to read but appears to say that Robert was blind.

 

Robert Seed Sr died in about 1874 and his wife moved into one of the Almshouses in Aighton:
