THE FAMILY OF RHODA WALMSLEY

 

Thomas Walmsley and Louisa Pollard were married in St John's Parish Church in Blackburn in 1884 and had their first child, Thomas Jr in about January of 1885. Thomas Jr died in June of that year, aged 5 months, and was buried in Blackburn Cemetery on 5 June 1885. Just 6 months later they buried another child, this time a stillborn infant, buried on 12 December 1885.

By the time of the 1891 census were living in Baywood Street with their 2 young daughters:

Thomas Walmsley Sr died, age 33 years, in May of 1891 and was buried in Blackburn Cemetery with his two young children, on 3 June 1891. Louisa would have been pregnant at the time of her husband's death as Rhoda was born four months after her father's death. She was born on 7 October 1891. By the time of the 1901 census the widowed Louisa was still living in Baywood Street with her three surviving children:

Louisa (Pollard) Walmsley was buried at Blackburn Cemetery in a Church of England grave B-1160 with her husband Thomas and their two infant children.

From the National Probate Index:

Walmsley, Louisa, of 46 Stanley-road, Morecambe and Heysham, Lancashire, widow, died 26 May 1938.
Probate Lancaster 28 June (1938) to Henry Swarbrick, engineer.
Effects: £1034 12s 7d

Info from Will:

Louisa appointed her son-in-law Henry Swarbrick as her sole Executor. All real and personal property was to be divided equally between her daughters, Elizabeth Alice, wife of Francis William Gauntlett of 11 Stanley-road, Morecambe; and Rhoda, wife of Henry Swarbrick of 7 Marlborough-road, Morecambe.

Witnesses: Mrs Sarah Jane Chaplow and Marianne McConnell, both of Kendal.
