FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK
REMEMBERING ELSIE (SWARBRICK) BANKS:
PAGE FIVE
It was at the end of the war that Elsie met a young soldier called John Wilson Banks - "Jack" to his family and friends. They met at the home of Beatrice "Beattie" Boocock in Preston. Beattie was Elsie's cousin on her mother's side and was married to Jack's uncle, James Banks. Beattie was playing cupid and had invited her nephew Jack so that he could meet another girl that she thought would be perfect for him. But Elsie turned up before the other girl and that was the end of that. They fell in love and were married on the 27th October 1946. |

Elsie was nine years older than Jack and his family (and her cousin Beattie) did not approve. None of Jack's family attended the wedding and they initially treated Elsie terribly, but before long, they got to know Elsie and realized that she was a wonderful person and a wonderful wife. |
