Although I cannot find Mary Ann Swarbrick in the 1881 Census, I suspect that the Mary Jane Swarbrick living with her married younger sister Jane, was actually Mary Ann Swarbrick:

Mary Ann and her younger brother Jonathan stayed unmarried until later in life and at the time of the 1891 Census she was living in her brother's Public House:

Jonathan Swarbrick was married in 1896, and it appears that Mary Ann took over the running of the pub. When she was married 3 years later, she and her new husband ran the pub together:

2: Richard and Mary Ann had been married 12 years and had no children.
3: They were working on their "own account, at home" in a beerhouse.
4: As it was Richard that filled-in the census form, the place of birth is probably more accurate than that given in the 1901 Census.
