The following year, the unmarried Elizabeth Whiteside gave birth to a daughter in Anderton. Possibly to avoid embarrassment, Elizabeth took her baby to the nearby village of Rivington to be baptized: |

Jonathan Whiteside died in 1853, aged 66 years, and was buried in the churchyard at St Helen's Parish Church in Churchtown on 26 December 1853 by James Pedder, Vicar. Burial number 1595. |
