FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF ROBERT SWARBRICK

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:

Robert's address as noted in the Will of his brother William in 1880 was The Crescent Hotel, Rokeby Street, Liverpool. This was probably the same pub as mentioned in Robert's Will as the Everton Hotel, Everton Crescent, Everton, Liverpool.

Everton Crescent and Everton Brow were two parts of the same road which may explain the confusion over Robert's address. The pub was apparently on the corner of Rokeby Street and Everton Brow (or Crescent).

1895 Liverpool City Directory:

"Swarbrick, Elizabeth (Mrs.), wine and spirit vaults, 77 Rokeby Street and 40a Everton Brow, Everton."

When Elizabeth died in 1908 her address was 28 Winifred Street, Liverpool:

1905 Liverpool Street Directory:

"28 Winifred Street, Liverpool, Arthur Storey, Baker."

There are three other people buried with Robert and Elizabeth Swarbrick in their grave at Everton Cemetery:

Mary Ann Storey, age 58, of Southern Hospital, Toxteth, buried on 9 August 1896. No. 12402.
Arthur Storey, age 31, of Hospital, Bootle, buried on 12 August 1906. No. 22574.
Florence Storey, age 68, of 40 Parton Street, Liverpool, buried on 27 June 1935. No. 36307.

I believe that these people are related to Elizabeth Swarbrick.

Robert Swarbrick was a witness at the following weddings held at St. Timothy's Church of England in Everton, Liverpool:

1) James Adams, 24, bachelor, to Agnes Woodburn, 26, spinster, on 20 April 1974.

2) Elias Mourant, 46, bachelor, to Mary Ann Hussey, 21, spinster, on 13 May 1874.

3) Charles Maxwell, 36, bachelor, to Norah Hobbins, 35, widow, on 29 July 1874. (nee' Farring)

4) Joseph Cowan, bachelor, to Margaret Cummings, spinster, on 29 January 1875. (of full age)

5) Jesse Reid, 25, bachelor, to Alice Roberts, 24, spinster, on 24 February 1875.

6) William Kelly, 21, bachelor, to Isabella Heron, 20, spinster, on 26 February 1876.

7) Matthew Webb, 28, bachelor, to Agnes Laidlaw, 22, spinster, on 15 February 1877.

There may have been more instances like the above, both before and after the dates covered. Robert may also have been godfather or sponsor to children baptized at St. Timothy's Church but these records have not yet been checked.
