FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK

THE FAMILY OF HARRY & MAUDE STUCHBURY

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:

After marrying in Shelly, Harry and Maude moved to Preston and were living at 55 Linnet Street from about 1917 to about 1929 when they moved to 134 St. Stephen's Road.

After the death of Maude's mother Ellen in 1929 her father George moved in with them until his death on 1 May 1931, Maude's 49th birthday.

Although all records refer to Maude's husband as Henry or Harry, their niece Elsie remembers him as "Uncle Jack" and in postcards written by Maude to her brother Leo she refers to "Jack" several times.

Maude died 2 days after her brother Leo's wife Ellen. It must have been a terrible time for Leo, losing his wife and sister within two days. The two women's Death Notices were published on the same day.

According to Elsie Banks (nee' Swarbrick), Maude's marriage to a non-catholic caused a bit of a stir with her grandparents and that "Uncle Jack" was not treated very well - especially by Maude's father. Elsie said that Harry was a kind man and a good husband to her Auntie Maude.

NOTE:
1: The above information is mainly based on the recollections of my late cousin Elsie (Swarbrick) Banks, postcards written by Maude to her brother Leo, and Preston directories held at the Lancashire Archives.
