| Whether it was the 1940s or the 1970's (or the 2000s), Elsie had a soft spot for a man in uniform. Before meeting Jack
(who was in uniform on the day they met), she had fallen for a young French Canadian soldier, Rene Albert, who was stationed near Preston during
the war. They dated and he took her to dances and all was well until Elsie's mother discovered that Rene had a wife back home. Elsie was heartbroken but she and Rene stayed friends and they corresponded after the war right up until Rene died - then she corresponded with his wife! |
