FAMILY HISTORY: SWARBRICK
REMEMBERING ELSIE (SWARBRICK) BANKS:
PAGE TEN
Elsie lived a long, full life. She couldn't have children but never considered herself the motherly type. Yet she was like a surrogate mother to me
and even jokingly referred to herself as my mother - mainly when she was giving me hell for something. She would nag at me about not eating right, not getting enough sleep,
working too hard, or not dressing warmly enough on cold days and end her rant with, "Listen to your mother now!". In her last years she suffered health problems but she never lost her remarkable sense of humour or her thirst for knowledge. She watched the evening news every day, watched current affairs programs, and read two or three newspapers a day. She was a warm, kind and generous person who valued her family and friends. Her many friends came from all walks of life, crossing racial, religious, and cultural divides and ranged in age from children to people her own age and older. |

Elsie celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by friends and family and enjoyed her day. But birthdays were becoming more | |
and more of a chore and she was ready for the next chapter. She was ready to go. |
