NOTES: | |
 | James & Anna Madden's first six children were born in Montore, Tipperary, in what later became the Irish Free State and is now the Republic of Ireland. They emigrated to the USA c. 1849. |
 | Anna (Whitford) Madden died some time between the date of the 1860 and 1870 Censuses, and the last record I have for James Madden is the 1880 Census. It is believed that he returned to Ireland. |
 | I had initially thought that their eldest child, Margaret, died in childhood as I could find no record of her other than her baptism record. I now know that she survived infancy, married and had a family. |
 | The marriage information and the birth/baptism information for the first six children is taken from transcripts kindly provided by my distant cousin John Patrick Madden and from scans of the original registers now online at the National Library of Ireland. Much of the other information is based on a variety of internet sources, and I am indebted to Carrie Young, and Bob, John & Teresa Madden for the wealth of information they have kindly provided to myself and other researchers. |
