NOTES:
In days gone by, the Catholic Church insisted that children be baptized with a saint's name. As Maude was not a saint's name, she was baptized 'Matilda'.
When Alice was born her parents were living at 15 Hill Street, Preston and her father was a Cloth Looker in a cotton mill. George and Ellen moved shortly after her baptism as her birth was registered by post from their new address at Market Street, Ramsbottom.
When Richard was born his parents were living in Margaret Street, Nuttall Lane, Ramsbottom and his father was described as a Railway Night Shunter.
I only discovered that George and Ellen had a sixth child when the 1911 Census was released and have not yet found her baptism record. She was born Ramsbottom and would almost certainly have been baptized at St Joseph's Church.
The above information is taken from the original baptism registers, all held at the Lancashire Archives, with the exception of those for St Joseph's Church in Ramsbottom, which are still held at the church.
