BURIAL RECORDS:

 

MONUMENT INSCRIPTIONS:

(George and Ellen are buried in an unmarked grave at Preston Cemetery
with their daughter Alice Atkinson and other members of the Atkinson
family. Their son William is buried elsewhere in the cemetery in a
public grave and their daughter Helen was buried in Ramsbottom.)

 

DEATH NOTICES:
"On the 7th inst., at 30 Pedder Street, William, son of George and Ellen Swarbrick, aged 1 year and 5 months."

"Swarbrick - On the 23rd inst., at 44 Holstein Street, Ellen, the beloved wife of George Swarbrick, aged 72. Requiem St. Ignatius' Church at ten o'clock, on Thursday morning. R.I.P."
(From The Lancashire Daily Post, Tuesday, 26 February 1929)
"Swarbrick - On the 1st inst., George, the beloved husband of the late Ellen Swarbrick, aged 76 years. R.I.P. 134 St. Stephen's Road."

AND...

"Swarbrick - On the 1st inst., at 134 St. Stephen's Road, George Swarbrick, aged 76 years, Requiem Mass at St. Gregory's Church, Tuesday 10 a.m. R.I.P."

BURIAL RECORDS:
William Swarbrick, age 19 months, of 30 Pedder Street, Preston, was buried in a public grave in the Catholic section II-492 at Preston Cemetery on 11 January 1882.
Helen Swarbrick, age 2 years and 1 month, of 32 Nuttall Lane, Ramsbottom, died at home on 26 August 1887 but, according to the staff at Ramsbottom Cemetery, she was not buried there. At this time, her place of burial is a bit of a mystery.
Ellen Swarbrick, 'nee Boocock, age 72 years, of 44 Holstein Street, Preston, was buried on 28 February 1929 in a Private grave in the Catholic Section E-114 at Preston Cemetery. It was the 3rd interment in a large grave belonging to the Atkinson family, her daughter Alice's in-laws.
George Swarbrick, age 76, died at Sharoe Green Hospital and was buried on 5 May 1931 in in a Private grave in the Catholic Section E-114 at Preston Cemetery. It was the 4th interment. His address in the burial register is given as 134 St. Stephen's Road, Preston - the home of his daughter Maude.

 

NOTES:
1: In June 1883 the family moved to Ramsbottom and were living in Margaret Street, Nuttall Lane at the time of Richard's birth in 1884, when his father was described as a Railway Night Shunter. At the time of Helen's death in 1887, they were living at 32 Nuttall Lane, Ramsbottom and George was working as a labourer at the print works in Ramsbottom, They returned to Preston sometime after Helen's death.
2: George and Ellen's grave at Preston cemetery marked only with a plot marker.
